People often tell me I write quickly, especially after feedback rounds. It’s not that I rush, part of my process happens when I’m not writing.
Back when I studied math and computer science, I noticed that stepping away from a problem often led to the solution appearing during a walk or even in my dreams. I use the same approach for screenwriting.
This is known as diffuse thinking, a relaxed mental state where the brain makes connections outside of focused effort. Sleep, especially REM, plays a huge role in this. It consolidates memory and creatively links ideas, which is exactly what I need when shaping characters or storylines.
So while it might seem like the ideas come fast, they’re often slow-cooked overnight.
